Interesting pickups. Could be Armstrong - Kent or Dan.

So many questions... what is the third backplate for? Is it for active pickups battery storage?

I think it was priced at £3k, which was too much for me.

The 6 string pickups have been changed, but otherwise that looks like the beast all right, great find.

The later pickups ditched the 'Rainbow' logo and in fact he still makes them by hand to order. I recently had a matching Stereo Humbucker made to match an early 80s one I acquired on here. He had to dig out the resin-casting mould from his storage container to match it and he was full of apologies that he couldn't 100% match the resin (H&S, environmental stuff) but its a pretty much exact replica (overwound for the bridge).
If you pop them out, they will have little labels on the bottom with handwritten code on them. Kent (or his son Aaron, who is based in the UK) is very cool about decoding this, if you are interested. Fantastic pickups!

VERY cool guitar - do you know who it was made for?
No idea about its history - the pic of Peter Cook is from the (1980) Sounds Book of the Electric Guitar:
