Great thread. I think there’s a real magic in bringing old and damaged things back to life- the positive intention behind it and the skill of the repairers. I also think it’s great that you’re making this guitar truly ‘yours’ now.

agree with you - I like watching the similar ilk on car shows and the ability such guys have , be it exact vintage restoration or the likes of Fast n Loud with hot rod mods as well

Well, I always knew I wouldn’t sell it (nay, couldn’t) and it always seemed a bit of a sad relic. If the neck is as comfortable as the ones on the three other Williams guitars I own, it will finally get regular time.

Despite the Gibson heritage, it will no longer be a Gibson. So I’m not opting for decals and have asked Haydn to do an abalone inlay of the following, which is Sanskrit for breathe (I’m a bit of a meditation nerd and has personal meaning - I also considered an HP Lovecraft Elder Sign!):

Fine work and aside from appreciating SG's, meditation and the mighty but a little racist at times Lovecraft (I really love his work and monsters but he has his flaws for sure) the breathe thing is pretty cool; I'd write the word on my arm when I'd be playing gigs to avoid having a panic attack or freaking out.

@earwighoney Trust me, I’ve had to work to embed it as something I do easily - but the inlay might help!

Lovecraft seems more xenophobic but I might be wrong. I don’t think it’s relevant to his fiction though (I’ve a little Cthulhu tattoo on my wrist!).

It's a difficult one tbh. Have you ever read any Robert E Howard? He has a few similar issues. Lovecraft is still my favourite writer though. That era of horror writers is my favourite.

I've read the complete works (near enough) of both, in my teens and again in the last few years.  There are some examples of racial stereotyping which make for very uncomfortable reading, especially in Howard's work, although I don't think there was any malicious intent.

He was pretty much an active white-supremist.

I only discovered this recently after finally reading some of his work and feeling it was a bit off then researching him.

Neck porn before the final pics tomorrow.  I have it at home and it's terrific!

Quick question, any advice on the value of the old tuners?

    Looking good.

The gearing for the origal tuners is OK so they're worth using.

@Revolting1 - I wanted locking ones, so the originals are surplus!
