I am looking at getting my P22 properly setup. Any recommendations for who could use preferably within 50 miles of Northampton.

  • Would Feline be close enough?

I would recommend Danny at Leicestershire Luthier. He has just refretted my Vela with jescar gold wire and it’s lovely to play. He’s really approachable so you should be able to get what you need

In northampton too, in a place called woodford
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

It’s worth it for any complex work though. He does the best refret work in the UK. IMHO. I live in Nottingham and I’ve yet to find anyone local that seems either technically competent or understands timescales. So for little stuff I tend to use Tim Marten as he’s only one train journey away. For anything a bit more demanding I’d still go to Feline and yes he’s 168 miles from my front door.

Good to hear that Dave is still going.
He was the first luthier /repairman I ever took any work to in 1984 when he worked out of a small shop called Danda Music which was about 100 yards from where I am now.
I had him ream out a Les Paul headstock tuner holes to fit a set of Schallers.
