Fabulous guitar of the day

Somewhere on Farcebook, on one of the amateur Luthier pages that I follow someone posted this guitar that he built as a tribute to his mum. I see a lot of nice guitars built by amateurs on Facebook, and some really terrible ones! This is the first one where I really thought 'wow, that looks incredible!'. It's not a style of guitar that I would usually go for, but I just think that it's a work or rare beauty.

  • If only PRS inlaid their fret boards like that!

That's nice, really nice.  It's like a violin.

Thanks for sharing, that’s a great build.

Inlays look good too, I always thought the last (closest to the pickups) PRS bird inlay looked more like a turtle, can’t Unsee that now!

  • This is achingly pretty. Everything is very tasteful (finish looks great) and the little design touches are excellent: the neck shape near the pickup, the pickguard, the binding, etc. It's also hard to do a "not just the usual F" f-hole design that works, but I really like these.

Heartfelt, fabulous skills, but ultimatley overly schmaltzy & kitsch.

    IMHO etc
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

  • Beautiful work.

    Though that bridge needs repositioning.
I sometimes think, therefore I am intermittent

I feel I must agree with you. Undoubtedly skilful luthiery with the finest of intent, but I think the top finish is at odds with the B&S gloss, the rear inlay out of place and the binding (high figure) clashes with the B&S wood (also high figure).

However, the fretboard inlays flowing from the line of the cutaway's return to the body is truly exquisite.

Very impressive work.  My mum's first and middle names were Dorothy Mary, and my gran was Mary, known as May, so I get a slightly strange feeling seeing that headstock!

The tailpiece could be a bit less industrial but despite that a very elegant guitar.
