Hope this works. I actually joined the forum back in 2015 but somehow got dumped & couldnt get my email verified, so I am not really a NEW new member.
I`m very old (76) and started getting paid to play in 1954 when I was the banjo player in a kiddie Trad Jazz band in North London.  I got a guitar in June 1954 for my 10th birthday & when I started at Harrow Weald County Grammar School that autumn got recruited by a class mate who played trombone in the trad band.  The rest is history. My family moved to Cambridge in 1960 & I couldnt find a jazz band, so I bought an electric guitar (an hideous but cheap Eko 335-alike) and an Italian amplifier, also cheap, & helped start a little rock & roll band.  I should add that people like Dave Gilmore  & Tyrannosaurus Rex plus many others who became world known were also hanging out on the Cambridge scene back then.
Ever since then I have been wandering around the world playing in lots of different bands, none of which got rich & famous, although just about every band I was in wound up with at least some of them being rich & famous.
One example was the first band, with Ricky Wills playing rhythm guitar & me playing lead. Second lineup, I moved to bass as we managed to snaffle a really good guitarist, Tony "Bubs" White.
The following year I left to join another band that had more, better paying gigs. Shortly after that I moved to yet another band called Wages of Sin  on lead guitar.  When I left them to go pro with a Country rock band called  Chameleon, Tim Renwick took over from me on lead guitar.

From there on I was wandering around the UK in umpteen different bands  until 1980 when I moved to Nashville, Tennessee and spent ten years there playing in all sorts of interesting setups. Oh, I forgot I had also done some touring in Germany before then with a couple of random bands. Anyway, this has gone on far too long, so I maybe should do a part 2 in a couple of year`s time. D

  • Q1:  Where did you username come from?

My name and where I live.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

London! Although I'm moving to Surrey shortly, so the username may very quickly be out of date...

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

I'm very much a bedroom player, so 'just keep improving' is my main ambition really. I suppose I quite like the idea of starting to record some ideas at some point.

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

If push came to shove, the thing I'd keep above all else would be my Les Paul Traditional.

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

This is completely impossible and my mind has changed half a dozen times already. Probably something by Clapton; maybe Layla.

Q1:  Where did you username come from?

It was a kids' toy that I longed for sometime in the 1960s:  a briefcase full of spy stuff.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

    Sorth Effrika

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

I have already achieved it:  when the neighbours turned up and asked me to 'Turn that music down' while I was practicing.  As opposed to "Shut that !^%!@^$@! noise up!"

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

Warwick Streamer LX 5 string bass.  A proper one, made in Germany before they introduced 'team built'.

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

Currently Bridge of Sighs - Robin Trower.  It changes every few weeks, though.  Next week, it might be the theme from "Raised by Wolves."  If I could only listen to one tune for the rest of my life, it would be the last movement of Beethoven's 9th.

Q2:  Where in the world/country are you?

    Southend-On-Sea.

Q3:  What's your main musical ambition?

Be able to play along with my favourite songs, and enjoy every second of it

Q4:  Your "best" bit of gear? - just the one?

Have to be my Epipone Les Paul Standard 60's. Didn't cost a lot, but damn I love that thing.

Q5:  Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

Led Zeppelin - Kashmir (will change if you ask me in 5 mins)

Hello all, been lurking a long while.

This post made me sign up:

...I've just been doing the same to an '84 Tokai that I bought new when I was 14/15. Mine even has similar chisel work where I put a P90 at the bridge - I was heavily into Ry Cooder at the time.

Q1: Where did you username come from?

It's a nickname my whole family share based on our surname

Q2: Where in the world/country are you?

    Canterbury, UK

Q3: What's your main musical ambition?

To earn a living from music - unlikely though

Q4: Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?

My modular synth, but that is many instruments...

Q5: Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?

When I'm feeling a big 'hooligan' Deep Purple 'Fools' - when I'm not Ry Cooder's Paris Texas
