Quite the page-turner. If true, what a monumental series of acts of self-sabotage. The brothers do not come out of this well.

Quite the contrast to the Chuck Prophet biog, released recently.

I loved it, unfortunately, as a fan from the start and watching their career, I suspect a lot of it is true

For me, it makes listening to their records a more difficult thing.

It’s an interesting read, and Steve mentions in interviews on YouTube he was also to blame for some of the band issues. Just goes to show that being in a band isn’t always “Living the dream”. Having seen Rich Robinson do a solo acoustic set to 200 people in the bham Academy 3, about 3 years after they’d played as the Crowes to 2000 people in the Academy 1, I found it amazing that the urge to perform means you keep going on a downward spiral to keep the dream alive.
    Karma......

I'd like to read this. In fact I think it's meant to be, since I was listening to Make Glad as I opened this post :)

Would anyone like to save some tree and sell me their copy?

Hoping this means 'Chuck comes out of the book well' rather than 'not a page-turner'? It's in a big pile of books I haven't got around to reading yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

The Chuck book is really good, but for me there wasn't enough about Chuck in it. It's more a series of chapters about making each of the albums. I was really none the wiser about Chuck as a person after reading it. Still worth reading though.

I've just got the 30th-anniversary cd through, so it hasn't stopped my enjoyment but it does make me feel rather old :-))

I went to the Sheffield gig, there were about 60 people there, it was great but still...

Yes. Despite his travails, comes across as a human and a pro.

It was interesting and quite evocative, reading his perspective on gigs I was at. Notably, the Newport 'Amorica' gig.

Hadn't expected anything less, but always nice not to be disappointed! Think Simkin is a fan who became a mate rather than a 'Let's start at the beginning' biographer, so it makes sense that it's mostly about the records. Suits me fine; the one biography I started and never finished is Springsteen's, which I found to be a bit long on personal stuff.

    Music Biogs I Have Enjoyed:

    Keith Richards
    Lukather
    Miles (the Autobiography)
    Andy Summers
    Bruford
    Donald Fagen
    Richard Thompson

    In the queue:

    Wayne Kramer
    Richard Lloyd
    Fela

Non-music autobiography I would thoroughly recommend: Akira Kurosawa 'Something Like An Autobiography'
