Saw him in a few things, but particularly enjoyed his work in Friday Night Dinner.  54 is no age at all.

RIP

  • Awful news.  I was talking about him just yesterday.  Great (and very different) performances in Friday Night Dinner and Chernobyl.

Very sad. He was excellent in Friday Night Dinner. A great comic actor, but also a great serious actor (e.g. Chernobyl).

    It's not a competition.

I'm tempted to say "Shit on it"...

That really is tragic.  Paul Ritter was one of those rare actors who was instantly recognisable but never typecast.  And Friday Night Dinner was one of the few things on TV that had me laughing out loud.   I know Robert Popper told us not to assume the final episode of the last series was the last ever, but there's no way it could reappear without Paul.

Very sad, I really enjoyed Friday Night Dinner, he was an excellent actor both in comedy and serious roles.  RIP

Just this minute seen this. Only got into Friday Night Dinner a couple of weeks ago and watched all 6 series since. He was brilliant and hilarious as Martin. What awful sad news RIP Sir!

Yes I immediately went Shit On It!
I only know him from Friday Night Dinner but he played a great role.

I liked him in the dramatisation of the story of Dads' Aemy, and wasn't he also in Chernobyl?

That's terrible. I knew him best for his parts in No Offence and Resistance - he was excellent.

It's a cruel disease - I have to attend the funeral next week of a friend and colleague, who succumbed to it at the age of just 45. Way too young, and a sad loss.

I feel very sad indeed about Paul Ritter's passing, I absolutely loved Friday Night Dinner, a top drawer modern sitcom with a stellar cast. He was brilliant as Martin, so sad that there will be no more episodes.

I laughed so much at some of those - the ventriloquist dummy episode springs to mind - "bugger off"!!!

    Lovely bit of squirrel!

    RIP Paul.

I must admit when I heard the news this morning I didn't recognise the name, although I'm usually good with actors' names.  Reading about his surprisingly wide-ranging career I don't think I've actually seen many of his performances, but I have watched and enjoyed Friday Night Dinner.   The show's writer, Robert Popper, was on the radio earlier and he seemed very upset.

    RIP

Nearly shed a tear there.  Such a great character, but Paul elevated it to perfection.  Wherever he is now, I'll bet he's boiling.
