It just occurred to me that Tori Amos hasn't been mentioned (at least I don't think she has).

She has some of the most obscure lyrics ever written.  Space Dog, anyone?

    Rain and snow
Our engines have been receiving your eager call
    There's Colonel Dirtyfishydishcloth
    He'll distract her good
    Don't worry so

No doubt they'll have some deep and cryptic meaning knowing Tori but whatever she smokes when she writes some of her lyrics, I want some!

There is no 'H' in Aych, you know that don't you? ~ Wife

Turns out there is an H in Haych! ~ Sporky

    Bit of trading feedback here.

    I think she's just bonkers.

    Love her music :).

She’s delicious. Her music is very good, too.

Anything off Kill Em All, other than the Four Horsemen. But it’s so good musically you easily look past it...plus how old were they when they wrote that stuff, 19?

Maiden - The Evil That Men Do

    Living on a razor's edge
    Balancing on a ledge
    Living on a razor's edge
    Balancing on a ledge
    Balancing on a ledge
    Living on a razor's edge
    Balancing on a ledge
    You know, you know

And I will pray for her
I will call her name out loud
    I would bleed for her
If I could only see her now

    Seems fine to me

Yeah it's fine, it's just some repetition.

  • Amazingly... the OP's track sounds like a Primus parody of a Primus parody to me!!

Lyrics didn't bother me. The hackeneyed playing did.

    Bye!

One of the few "lyricists" I pay attention to is Neil Fallon from Clutch.

Again, it's not exactly poetry - not in the Keats and Wordsworth sense, at least.  A lot of it reads like stream of consciousness and he certainly uses words just because they rhyme.  But the choice of words, phrases and references is just brilliant.
His meter is incredible as well.
Probably my favourite lyricist after Steven Wilson and Maynard.

    Dream Theater have some clangers:

    Mother Mary quite contrary
Kiss the boys and make them wary
Things are getting just a little bit scary
    It's a wonder I can still breath
Never been much of a doubting thomas
But nothing breaks like a broken promise
You tell me 'bout your two more coming
But once is just enough for me

Dali's Car - Peter Murphy "pseud's corner" lyrics over Mick Kahn's fabulous Wal bass and woodwinds.

She is part Native American. Could be some shamanic "medicine" goin' on.
    Be seeing you.

Slightly struggling this afternoon with Murderess by The Power Station which rhymed murderer with jugular.

Was that prompted by the mention of Tony Thompson over in the Phil Collins thread? ;)

Yes, although it was me that mentioned him so it’s a bit circular. I thought The Power Station would be nice and uplifting whilst I tidied up in the kitchen but I got very stuck on the repetition of murderer and jugular.

I had the album back in the day and really liked it, but recently acquired both it and Arcadia's 'So Red The Rose', which I hadn't bought at the time because I thought the single 'Election Day' sounded too much like a second-rate Duran Duran - but listening again thirty years later, it's the Arcadia album which is by far the better of the two - The Power Station is hideously dated-sounding and the songs really aren't very good... disappointing.
