  • Here are a few

I am the Eggpod - reviews of Beatles and solo Beatles LP with a variety of guests
Rockonteurs with Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt - interviews with some stars of the 70s/80s/90s
Adam Buxton has also interviewed Laura Marling, Jonny Greenwood and Johnny Marr on his podcast

  • The Album Years with Steven Wilson and Tim Bowness is great. Each episode focuses on a year in what they call the golden years of the album and they talk about their favourite records from that year. Really relaxing and reminds you to go and listen to a few great albums you haven’t heard in a while.

I've just started listening to Rockonteurs with Guy Pratt and one of the Kemps. Enjoyable so far.

Yep. Recently, this has been my go to.

    Very entertaining

URM podcast, has a metal focus but some of the later episodes aren't really as genre focused.

QueenPod: The Queen Podcast is fantastic if you like (or think you'd like), well, Queen obviously :) They go track by track with some really impressive insights into the music, vocals and history of the band, and Queen have given them permission to play their songs, which really adds a layer of richness to the experience. 2nd season just finished today and they're about 2/3 of the way through the studio albums - good time to jump onboard!

Been giving this a try, and it's good fun. Being allowed to use Queen's catalogue is a real boon- it wouldn't be as good without it.

My one gripe (after two episodes) is that it would be nice to have someone on the show who didn't like Queen quite as much as the others. If you've ever read Revolution in the Head, which is written by someone who clearly loves the Beatles but wasn't afraid to face the fact that some of what they recorded is a bit rubbish, then you know what I'd prefer. The Queenpod people tend to be a bit gushing and uncritical. Or maybe that's to come.

I quite like Strong Songs, but it’s one of those where you get much more from it if you already like the song he’s breaking down. But, it’s also prompted me to listen to some songs I’d previously ignored / overlooked.

Switched On Pop is similar, but uses much more modern music as its focus, so might not be all that appealing to the Fretboard crowd. Full disclosure- I listened to it regularly for ages but eventually got a bit sick of some of the cultural-political commentary and stopped.

I've listened to a few of the recommendations on this thread now, and I'm finding the Sodajerker series enjoyable, even where the guest isn't really an artist I'd be interested in. The hosts do their research and know enough about songwriting to ask interesting questions. The Tim Minchin, Johnny Marr and Staves episodes have been highlights so far.

    Chart Music podcast.

If you grew up in the Top Of The Pops era, then this is superb.   Basically, a few cynical old Melody Maker hacks get together to discuss a random episode of TOTP from the past… essentially they absolutely slaughter everything, but it’s a great listen and very funny at times.  There‘s loads out there but I started with the first and I’m working my way through slowly….
