WTB - Gibson MK 81 or MK 99

As per title I'd love to get hold of one of the higher end Gibson MK guitars - I know there's no a lot of love for these amongst most Gibson fans but I tried one back in the dim and distance past and would like to see if there's one available out there sitting unloved and looking for a new home.

Cheers

My guitars:

Electrics - 1964 Burns Bison, 1967 Burns Jazz Bass, 1979 Sunburst Strat, 1975 Tele Custom, 1982 Les Paul Firebrand, 1990 Optek Fretlight FG200 (plus various USA and Jap Strats, Epiphone Casino x2, and others - some in bits).

Just for your info, a Mk 53 went through the Gardiner-Houlgate auction in June for £550. Lot 210.

I had one in 1979. See previous thread.

Yeah, I was watching that auction for a few other guitars and noticed that one...it looked to have a few issues.

The MK series was vastly underrated and like a lot of 1970s era Gibsons had some QC issues - however the this really only applies to the first 3 guitars the 35, 53 and 72....the 81 and 99 were different guitars and made by Richard Schneider and are amazing....check out Richard Schneider/Kasha guitars (Dr. Michael Kasha came up with the project initially and even collaborated with Segovia) and see where they went with the designs that followed after the initial research and leaving Gibson as they scrapped the project.

I saw quite a few instruments on Ebay coming back up after being sold, so who know? Good luck anyway

Yeah, fingers crossed that is the case here but I think it's unlikely...looks like it sold to someone in the US given the time of sale so unless they baulk at shipping costs I think I've missed that one.
