How does one buy a Klon KTR?

What's Hot

I'm after a klon of some description, and before building one or buying a klone I was wondering - how does one get a KTR? There doesn't seem to be a manufacturer waiting list like with the KoT. Is it a first come first served situation when new stock comes in to online stores, or are there dealers doing their own waiting lists?

I'm mostly interested from an investment perspective - it's not much more than a Ceriatone or RYRA, and maybe will appreciate over the next decade whilst enjoying the pedal.

Cheers!

Check the @klonllc instagram account - apparently an announcement is coming via YouTube on Friday.

IIRC he now only makes a few and sells them on ebay to raise money for a friend who needs medical treatment in the USA.

So keep an ebay search handy and a couple of thousand quid if you really want one.

The Klon he makes randomly out of nowhere.
The KTR meant to have an external company making these but not seen a drop in absolutely ages.

So neither really has predictable avenue to get a new one.

    ^^

I'd contact Joe and ask if he's expecting more. Internet rumours suggest it may be out of production now indefinitely - but with Bill, who knows.

Yeah I don't think Joe has had stock for a while.
The easiest way to buy one is just bite the bullet on a used one, and watch it go up in value.

December last year was the last time I think he had any.

    Put £500 into Apple stock.
Put £50 in a Klone from eBay.

It will probably outperform the KTR in terms of investment aspect

  • But as @Doveholes says, there is news coming on Friday - specifically about KTR production, apparently.

  • Assuming above news can only be good news regarding availability, I'm wondering whether it's worth throwing down a pre-order at ccgx now before more flood in.

Definitely.  He says the news about it 'may be of some interest'.....

His last hand-built run?  Or perhaps he's licensed another builder?

Genuinely don’t get this whole unobtanium chasing, £700 for an overdrive? £2-3k? I mean, the original I sort of understand the collectors appeal, much like an old fuzz.

  • I get the whole ‘own an original and support the inventor’ but the Klones are so good that are the originals really with the extra cost?

Although not completely of his making, he definitely played some part in creating the “ridiculous hype”.

Whatever about the originals going for big money, the stop/start nature of the supply of KTRs has definitely contributed to them increasing in value above their list price.

Yeah, this is a thing I've wondered too.

Normally I much prefer to support the designer/original manufacturer - so I buy EHX Muffs rather than boutique clones, for example - but when the price for a "proper one" is insanely marked up compared to a well built, good quality, electrically identical one from any of a million different companies its almost impossible to justify. Especially when you add in the annoying form factor of the KTR.

  • I'm more than happy with my Archer (ahem, YouTube demo link below!), but would still be tempted to 'support the inventor' if he started banging out KTRs at £200 a pop. Especially if they came without the "Kindly remember" nonsense.

I’m sure it’s not a lack of demand that has hampered production of the KTR.

There are companies out there, such as Decibelics, for which klone production is the most significant part of their business.
