  I'm sure you've already thought of it but the newer Epis are bloody good. Weirdly they've used a veneer front on the (transparent) SGs though which can look a little strange if buying blind, however:

  It might be worth looking at the Gibson Sg Special in nitro, mine is finished in a dark cherry.
  
  Here’s mine (2nd in from the left) next to my 65 Gibson Sg which is a heritage cherry type colour but as you can see it’s not worlds away from eachother colour wise.

  If I were buying for me I’d be all over that. I love the Special Fadeds with the fat necks. But as a Christmas present for a 14 year old it might not be “shiny” enough

  Which made me think: which SGs, Gibson or Epiphone, have the chunkier necks, i.e. closest to a PRS wide fat, as opposed to the Slim Taper that some SG have? Old or new.

  doesn't the 2020 inspired by Gibson sg special have a super fat neck, like the lp special does?

  someones buying an SG for a 14 year old in the year 2021... does the maths... so 2007 is his birth year? Is that right?
