I often do these in parts, mainly due to time. I'll concentrate on a section, noodle through to see what fits and then just sort of sculpt that part. It's not a spectator sport though I wouldn't want to be the person sat watching me compose a solo. Some I can do quicker than others I guess and sometimes I've come up with the whole thing and recorded it whole.
I hope you keep entering and the other newer guys too, the more the merrier.
My approach was to get a patch set up with tremolo plugin timed perfectly with the beat of the track and record various versions of something slow and moody.
Then have dinner.
Then delete everything, remove the tremolo plugin, steal a bit of Samantha Fish and then shred away with a dual guitar harmony descending tapping finale with some variable panning automation just because and forget to do any compression / EQ / cleaning up on the final mix. Doh
It's not elegant, it's not bluesy but it's me.
