Rare guitar. From what little information there is on t'internet I believe that these were made for just three years (1973-76) at the same Matsumoko factories that built the Greco/Tokai's. (unless someone else here knows better.

All original parts.

In reasonable condition for a 70's guitar. It has seen some action, and there is buckle rash and tarnishing on the pickups and bridge components, but still plays well.

At the moment the action is set very low - as it has those wide-flat gibson frets. The neck is narrow but full, and I'll put that into context by adding that the nut width is 40mm - so though the neck isn't as much of a handfull as you might think.

The guitar weighs in at 8.7lbs or 3.9kg, and it seems that the weight is well distributed, as there is no tendancy to dive.

£300 or best offer.

No postage, but I'm prepared to drive a reasonable distance (I'm at junction 8 of the M1) to do a deal.

I hoped you'd be along. Do you know any more of the history of Pearl guitars, or how they were dated. There is a number on the headstock, but as yet I haven't been able to find a site to check date of manufacture.

Nice - an old friend has a Pearl Les Paul Custom that is actually *very* good. If I had some funds right now...

There’s not exactly a plethora of info out there re. origins - some allegedly Taiwanese, others MIJ, etc...

There’s a looong thread here which goes into some detail:

The tone stands up when it plays the piano.

Not much I can add about the history - Going back into the early 80's and we'd sell Pearl Drums - I vaguely recall having a chance to buy some LP's and SG's that the importer was jobbing out - It was a warehouse clearance of gear no one knew they had - In effect, the importer was just geared up to sell the drum products and almost forgot about a few guitars in the warehouse

I recall the quality was good - But it was a one of transaction that was never repeated - Until I saw this ad for sale I'd totally forgot about Pearl as a guitar product - But as mentioned above it would be a product, from the likes of Matsumoko with the Pearl brand name added as required

If and I say if as I have no info, but if they were made in the 70's then when we acquired them from the suppliers, then they must have been old warehouse stock as it was certainly early 80's when we purchased them - I vaguely recall we had to buy a pack of 6 LP's and ditto SG's  - They would be factory shipped in a master carton of 6

In fact just found them in my old stock book - We paid £60 for them in Oct 1980 - We had S/burst + Black LP's and cherry SG's - And that £60 included a case - I assume just a Jap generic case of the day - My stock book has no serial number and or model number info - So I'm guessing somewhere around £120  back then would be the forecourt price which would still have been a good price back then

A friend of mine had a Pearl acoustic back in the late 80's, it was a thing of beauty and played very well, he searched high and low for another one but could never find one.
