  • Sad news. Damn, I loved those two together particularly with Grace Jones, IMO peak Sly and Robbie era. The album A Dub Experience was a phenomenal piece of work.

  • Ah man, that's a shame. Was fortunate enough to see Sly & Robbie playing with Nils Petter Molvaer for their Nordub project, and they were great.

That was my favourite also.  What a great loss!

  • Sad news.
Huge discography of playing and production, one of those artists even if you don't recognise the name you will have heard their work a thousand times.

There’s a brilliant video on YouTube of Sly and Robbie with Dylan in the studio in the mid 80s, with Mark Knopfler and Mick Taylor on guitars. It’s absolutely joyous. Needless to say, the rhythm section is peerless. 68 is an exceptionally poor innings. RIP Robbie.

  • One of my all time heroes.

I know it happens to all of us eventually but it felt like Sly and Robbie would go on forever.

Saw them at Wembley Stadium when Black Uhuru opened the bill on the Rolling Stones' 1982/83 tour. I sometimes think that I should have left after their set.
    Be seeing you.

Just listening to Culture's 'Two Sevens Clash', which I knew he and Sly Dunbar played on... but reading the sleeve notes, to my amazement Robbie Shakespeare wasn't playing bass, he was playing guitar! Lloyd Parks was on bass.

Either way a truly inspirational, wonderfully musical-sounding bass player. 68 is no age at all.

    RIP :(

  • Devastating news that - Sly and Robbie have an almost unparalleled body of work as players, song writers and producers..... There reach was enormous and they worked with sooooo many - I first heard them on a remix of Fugee La they did on The Score album (for the 90's kids) - I remember it was the first time I heard that dancehall rhythm - Id never heard anything like it - and it set me on path of exploration that opened up a whole new musical world.....be sadly missed
