Reluctantly selling my Tokai ES100J from 1981.

I wont make you scroll down for the pics, so here goes:

It is in very good condition for a 41 year old, it has play wear, some minor bumps and light bucklerash but it certainly has not been abused. The build quality of these early 80's ES guitars is second to none and would easily blow similar guitars of the period right out of the water.

Fret edge binding is still in place and the original frets are still full of life. It plays faultlessly and just feels so good. The pups are old looking Tokai's but I am pretty sure they are not the original ones. Everything else appears to be original including the bridge with Brass saddles.

The Eagle eyed amongst you will have spotted the unusual headstock inlay, for a short period in the early 80's Tokai used this on certain models, they were obviously copying the Gibson Artisan LP from the late 70's, like this one:

The hard case is not original but it is an old one, not great but does the job.

Not keen on putting this in the post, so would prefer collection, happy to travel around 50 miles from South Beds for a sale.

Would have to reconsider whether I sell this if my Duesenberg sells.

    I was lucky enough to get to chase down and briefly own high quality late 70s to late 80s japanese built semis. I went through Greco, Tokai, Burny, Argus, Vesta Graham... And others.

    All stunning in their own way. A very viable alternative to anyone searching a vintage 335, who can't afford one.

    I have one.......not quite as old but one of the first ES120s in Blonde fitted with Wizz PAFS and it has a gentle '59 neck.
    It's absolutely superb ,as I'm sure this is, and better than all but one of the Gibson 335 guitars that I have played .I have played at least 100 plus over the years .
    This is a great guitar......cast aside your misconceptions about American superiority and Custom Shop marketing bullshit ..this would be a great guitar at double the price.

  • I'm on the lookout for a 335 and this is would also scratch my birth year "big birthday" present I'd promised myself! Total bummer that you're so far away (I'm in Central Scotland)

    Last one I did out there involved 18 hours on the road and dodging of some tornado warnings and 0 visibility driving. I'll drive to Scotland for the right guitar no problem! Some lunatics of this parish will *gasp* meet halfway even

    Superb looking Tokai @prudd ;
