Have iPad and mpk mini, any need for hardware?

Ok ok so Im in over my head with the above combo.

But in the interest of learning about the hardware behind electronic music, is there any must haves?

  • Depends on what you want to do. There’s a batch of devices considered classics, but you can probably adequately replicate them in software for most people. 

    You’ve got analogue, digital and sample based drum machines, for example. Wavetable, FM, analogue, wavefolding, granular, digital, physical modelling synths. 

    Each has a classic or two. The Juno is probably one of the most famous synths and the 808 one of the most famous drum machines. You can get modern digital recreations of both in hardware these days without breaking the bank.

    Check out Loopop, Jorb or Sonic State on YT. Lots of great demos - most of it is about finding the sounds you connect with.
