Hope the mods don’t mind me starting a second ‘open’ thread in the classifieds section but it’s for something I’m after rather than selling.

Looking for an early ‘65 or earlier Gibson ES335 or ES355.

Must have the wider 1 11/16” (42/43mm) nut and the deeper/thicker the neck the better. Really looking for original PAFs/PATs. Happy to consider neck breaks, modded/repaired and refins. Under 9lbs.

Have some ‘old stuff’ I can trade (that I only want to move on if I can replace with the above) but if the seller isn’t interested in these then I can move these on to secure.

Sellers must be willing to share some decent and detailed photos of the guitar!

    It’s pre 65 he’s after, not pre 85.

Yeah thanks @Signman62 but as @hyperben mentions, after early ‘65 or earlier.

ATB have a burst 345 coming up but having moved on a cherry ‘62 330 to fund this, I think I’m after a cherry finish! Any out there?

Or anyone on here buy this?

I've had an original '63 cherry and an '82 Shaw blonde. To be honest the '82 blonde would have given the '63 a run for its money. Those early Shaw era 335s were pretty darn good but the PATs in my '63 were particularly good pickups.

The '63 was a transition model with Mickey Mouse ears and block markers.

That's in amazing condition. Any idea how much it sold for?

    Got to A/B a ‘64 335 and 345 today. Think it’s a 335 or mono 355 I’m after but what is out there?

  • I just bought a 61 es335 with pafs in… it was a headstock break and in player condition i’d say. Fyi bought it for £20k from ATB - actually i swapped a 63 strat and got some cash back.

lots of luck in the search!

My '62 was bought a while ago (£5k - quite a while ago, from a dealer in a little Herts village, which I think is long gone). Couldn't afford to buy one now.

(Really should have washed those nets! Wonder if there's a Photoshop filter...)

Never measured the nut width before, but I'd describe the neck profile as quite thin - which is exactly what I like. Can thumb-fret the bottom E string at the 7th fret for barre chords.

A new ‘63 up on V&Rs site but the headstock break is far too severe for me on this occasion so still looking!
