They really nice guitars, which you’re clearly taken by. I have a feeling if one sells you’ll be sad to see it go and won’t regret it wasn’t the other.

Very true. In fact, I'm now at the point of considering withdrawing this and offering up a couple of my PJEs instead - my main goal is to boost my PJE Macon Carved Top fund, but I'm struggling to decide what I can let go of...

    Next, Patrick James Eggle 96 Reverse - 2018 NAMM - £2200

    Background

This is a rather special example of Patrick wonderful take on the Strat, the 96, as this was the model he made for the 2018 NAMM exhibition. In fact, you can view the guitar on the Peach Guitars interview with Patrick by searching ‘Patrick James Eggle at NAMM 2018’  – it appears about 3m30s into the video.

I bought this guitar direct from Peach a few months later, and it’s not only provisionally up for sale to help fund another PJE. You’ll see I have a few Eggles for sale although I don’t plan to sell all of them.

    About the guitar...

As already mentioned this is a 2018 guitar – well it would have been made in 2017 but specifically for release at the 2018 NAMM event. It’s a 96 which features many of Patricks modern design twists on the well known s-type classic. The spec for this particular model is as follows:

BODY – 1 piece swamp ash with a black grained open pore finish

NECK – roasted figured maple with a shallow C profile, ebony fretboard with a compound radius (12-16) and Jescar 57110 jumbo frets

HEADSTOCK – reverse headstock with straight string pull and Gotoh PJE branded locking tuners

HARDWARE / ELECTRONICS – pair of MOJO hand wound humbuckers, with a 3 way selector switch, volume and tone controls (push/pull coil split on the tone)

BRIDGE – ABM 5200 knife edge trem with KTS titanium saddles

This is a wonderful guitar with a superb range of tones – the humbuckers split extremely well and take you into single coil territory whilst also excelling as full humbuckers offering some quite classic sounds (with judicious use of the volume and tone controls) through to some real rocking / high gain voices.

It’s plays flawlessly and although Patrick describes it as a shallow C neck, don’t let that fool you – there’s a bit of meat to it and it’s not what Jackson/Ibanez players would describe as shallow. It’s more of a flattened version of a full C.

The guitar is set up with a low (ish) action and great tuning and intonation.

    It comes with:

    Original fitted G&G tweed case

    Owners card and spec sheet

    Allen keys

    Original ABM saddles

The original strap buttons will be re-fitted prior to sale

    Condition

The guitar is in superb condition – although I’ve played it regularly in the (nearly) 5 years that I’ve owned it, it has had an easy life of being well cared for. The only real evidence of use are a few tiny indentations on the lower frets (the usual spots) although these have recently been polished and the wear is barely visible, and also some burnishing to the body in places when the matt/satin finish has polished through use to a slight sheen. There is no damage or any dings, marks to mention.

    Patrick James Eggle Macon Junior guitar – 2021 - £2400 now £2350

    Background

Here’s uber cool example of the very popular Macon Junior from Patrick James Eggle. I bought this guitar brand new direct from Patrick in 2021, although it was originally made to be a custom order for a dealer in the Netherlands. It comes in a custom colour, Nurburgring Green, and I’ve not seen another one like it.

You’ll see I have a few Eggles for sale although I don’t plan to sell all of them.

    About the guitar...

The Macon Junior takes it inspiration from a certain LP Special and it’s just a great rock machine with a very kind of raw feel to it. Of course, coming from PJE’s workshop, this takes a basic design and pushes it to the extremes of quality!

    Here’s the spec

    BODY – Mahogany slab body

NECK – roasted 2A maple with a fat C profile, Santos Rosewood fretboard with a 12” radius and Jescar 55090 medium frets

HARDWARE – Gotoh SD90 vintage tuners and an ABM wrapover bridge

ELECTRONICS – pair of MOJO hand wound pickups, a staple P90 at the neck and humbucker at the bridge, all controlled with a classic 3 way toggle, and pair of volume / pair of tone controls (incl coil split for the humbucker)

FINISH – Nurburgring Green with aged Nitro (note the extensive checking)

I love this guitar – it’s an awesome looking thing which is just lovely to play.

The guitar is set up with a low (ish) action and great tuning and intonation.

    It comes with:

    Original fitted G&G tweed case

    Owners card and spec sheet

    Allen keys

The original strap buttons will be re-fitted prior to sale

    Condition

The guitar is in superb condition – the only real sign of age is manufactured with that aged Nitro formula creating all the checking on the body and headstock. In terms of actual wear, the guitar is like new.

  • I'll take the burst Sir - a think of beauty!  Have PM'ed you. I've also put one of my Kidneys on e-bay as a down payment on the '96 - which is my as yet unattained holy guitar grail!

Thanks @BoneNuts - haven't received a pm, but happy to mark the Berlin Pro as sold pending - I'll message you.

So, with one sold, I now need to decide whether to remove the rest (my original plan was to only sell one) or seeing as I've come this far, do I continue to sell another one or two and get to my aim of buying a Macon carved top.

For now the others are still available, but this may change.

Apologies if I've missed this but are you offering delivery?

@Castro - I'd put delivery on the Berlin's at £14 (parcel force) but would rather not do delivery on the PJEs just because of the value

    Happy to talk though.

Cracking guitars Matt. Must be tough letting them go.
The necks are great on them aren’t they.
Are you specking your carve top?
I would like to play a redwood one

I have a redwood special & the top is lovely! Currently awaiting my macon hollow! Such great guitars. If you shift your 96 you'll probably only chase one again later!

I have another 96 which isn't for sale, otherwise I think you're right and I wouldn't be considering selling this one.

@*Aaron* - can't stretch to a new Macon, just trying to have the cash together for when I find a second hand one that ticks my boxes - there are a few out there.

My original plan, of just selling 1 Berlin and keeping the other has evolved into something different!

Having glimpsed the possibility of getting a Macon carved top, that's the new plan...
    • Both Now Sold... so 1 Berlin has now sold, the other is still available and reduced to £625 here (to try and stave off the ebay chancers who are already at the door with daft offers)
    • the 2 PJEs are available, but I only need to sell 1 so will remove the other

  • Hey Matt, that Macon is absolutely beautiful.  I only wish I could afford it.  I'm not normally drawn to green guitars but that's gorgeous.

Thanks - always had a soft spot for green guitars and this one is particularly awesome!

There was also another unique feature for this period which was the absence of a volute behind the nut – it’s alleged that the first models had hand carved necks and carving in a volute was labour intensive so this was added once necks moved to CNC carving – I can’t confirm the truth of this, and it may remain one of the lovely myths of a small guitar maker.

I'm pretty sure that the early necks were hand-carved - I know one of the guys that carved them  ;)
Was it American short story writer and poet Raymond Carver?
