Sellers’ remorse - GIBSON custom shop, collectors choice, and true historics

Hi all,

I’m suffering from sellers remorse. I owned two collectors choice Les Pauls for awhile plus a couple of true historic 58s. All of them had tooling marks on the fretboard which finally drove me nuts so I sold them all. Missing having a Les Paul around. Any thoughts? I really can’t cope with tooling marks on the fretboard on expensive instruments!

You shouldn't have to - buy a Collings!

I have a few Collings, all perfect with no tooling marks, recommended highly, as they play and sound great. Also look at Nik Huber and Patrick James Eggle, the Macon is a better bet for a LP in my view. Perfect playability and workmanship.

Many thanks. I've seen PJE Guitars with really bad fret end work. But thanks for the thought. I've seen some Nik Hubers that are excellent.

No problem. A more usual Macon "Fat C" would be your best bet then. I'd definitely give one a try if you get the chance. They are great guitars.

Thanks, I owned one once. However, the fret ends had strange fingerboard marks like someone tried to round off the frets and just scored the edges of the fingerboard as well…. ☹️☹️

Really chunky neck you say? If only someone were selling a CR58 in the classifieds…

If you want perfection you'll have to forget Gibson and pony up the cash for an MD Phillips.

Plus, he can make pretty much anything that the laws of physics permit; the fretless 7-string bass he made me is just a work of art.
