I wonder if I can reverse engineer this…

Brian Jones on all the instruments that take his fancy. :)
Steven stills -lead guitar, production and general funkiness
Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell, vocals, rhythm guitar and dual frontman heroics
BJ Cole -come on, what’s a song without pedal steel?
Mike Mills -Melodic bass lines, BVs
    Keys, I’m feeling Ian Stewart.
Drums has been hard -Dallas Taylor immediately came to mind, but  also hard to beat Matt Cameron.
    Jonny Greenwood = general mayhem

And there you have it, a nine piece band…jazz. ;)

    Vocals - Roger Daltrey
    Bass - Russel Jackson
Drums - don’t know his name but the guy from The Killers (or Mick Fleetwood)
Keys - Leon Russell or Billy Preston
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

When I do these I like to think of the best combination of people rather than just picking the best individuals I think.

But then I realise I can't really name many drummers or bassists...

I'll name one that actually happened:

    Vocals: Lou Gramm
    Guitar: Vivian Campbell
    Bass: Bruce Turgon
    Drums: Kevin Valentine

That's the band Shadow King.  I always thought Foreigner had some great songs but lacked guitar firepower, and Viv Campbell has been sadly under-used in Def Leppard (the band he left Shadow King to join).  They did one excellent album and just one live show in 1991.

We had passing reference on here the other day to the various guitarists who were supposedly auditioned for The Rolling Stones to replace Mick Taylor. I think had they gone with Shuggie Otis - child prodigy on guitar, writer and performer of psychedelia and funk - that might have been the most interesting version of the band. So that's my fantasy for complete strangers.
The dream line up involving me would have had Horace Panter or Norman Watt-Roy on bass and James Oliver has had both of them (on bass in his band). So, James is at least living the dream even if I can't...

    Haha!

I have Les Dawson pencilled in to be ‘Chris Lowe’ in my new Pet Shop Boys tribute band.

Who could be my ‘Neil Tennant’, though?

    Bob Mortimer?
    Consumer finance expert Martin Lewis?

Alexi Sayle. I remember him saying that he hates live music so I think he'd be perfect for that gig.

Well I asked a friend who said:

Creating a "best fantasy band lineup" involves blending musicians across genres and eras to form a supergroup. Here's a lineup featuring legendary artists known for their exceptional skill and influence:

    1. **Vocals**: Freddie Mercury (Queen)
       - Known for his extraordinary vocal range, stage presence, and dynamic performance style.

    2. **Lead Guitar**: Jimi Hendrix
       - Renowned for his innovative guitar techniques and electrifying solos.

    3. **Rhythm Guitar**: Keith Richards (The Rolling Stones)
       - A master of riffs and a key architect of the rock sound.

    4. **Bass Guitar**: John Entwistle (The Who)
       - Celebrated for his virtuosic bass playing and solid musical foundation.

    5. **Drums**: Neil Peart (Rush)
       - Famous for his complex drumming patterns and technical proficiency.

    6. **Keyboards**: Rick Wakeman (Yes)
       - Known for his elaborate keyboard work and contributions to progressive rock.

    7. **Saxophone**: John Coltrane
       - A legendary jazz saxophonist whose improvisational skills and creativity are unmatched.

    8. **Backing Vocals**: Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac) and Michael Jackson
       - Both bring unique vocal styles and incredible harmony potential.

This lineup combines the best from rock, jazz, and pop, ensuring a versatile and unforgettable sound.

    I wish this had happened:
    The telegraph reads

McCartney, Hendrix, Miles Davis and Tony Williams (drums).

Macca was on his holibobs, and didn't come back until after the proposed date.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

    Fantasy, you say...

Conan and Red Sonja, each on guitar and vocals
    Gandalf The Grey on bass
    Jareth from Labyrinth on keys
    Inigo Montoya on drums
"[Sporky] brings a certain vibe and dignity to the forum."
