Stripped and waxed 50s Tele

What's Hot
Stripped and waxed, not the prettiest piece of wood but the relic job done by the previous owner was shall we say, a little bit shite?, The body is made from around 30 pieces ha!, still it looks nice and beaten and bashed, just how a Tele should look. My tribute(ish) to Roy Buchanan, complete with reverse control plate. By the way these Fender 50s reissues have a ridiculously hard clear undercoat which shatters and explodes when under a heat gun, so safety first folks always wear your spectacles!

    I like it. A lot.
     so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

    @jonnyburgo

    That is fabulous man. I love the aged character you've achieved without it looking wrecked.

    Really, really like that man.

    Well done.

    I'd take that over any quilted top, fancy painted, inlaid fret board hairdressers guitar any day of the week.

    Andy, just had a quick look at your site, fantastic work mate and I'm quite happy to overlook any Vidal Sassoon style excess for five minutes alone with that red SG :)

    Trouble is, I can't prise it out of the grip of our old gits' band's bassist that I made it for...and he's a bassist for goodness sake...what are they like!

    Cheers chaps, Ive stripped a 72 reissue in the past and the whole thing came off in massive sheets in under 10 minutes, so I naively thought that this would be as easy. That hard sealer coat underneath was a bitch to get off, even with a heat gun. I thought I was down to the wood at first but no, very hard undercoat indeed. I do like the results though. I used Briwax dark oak wax which I use on my homemade furniture projects, it's great stuff, it really shows the wear and dings beautifully.

  • It's funny, multi piece bodies should be kinda ugly (like 3-6 bits) but sometimes it just really adds to the vibe, as is the case here. Looks really cool!

    And it does look like an old home made guitar that's been gigged and battered for twenty years. Which is awesome :D
