I recently picked up a Boss RV5. It's "ok". I was going to use the gate as a reverse type reverb, similar to what can be done on the Digitech Digiverb. But the decay or sustain of the Boss doesn't seem to work well for me anyway.
Would the Boss RV200 be much different. It does have a dedicated reverse reverb, which seems like it could work and a hold function. The Boss does sound a bit "metallic" at times.
I was also tempted by the Blackhole, but the Boss may kill a few birds with one stone, as I could have a nice plate or hall preset as well.
I don't want to consider the Eventide Space. (too much even for me!). The EHX Holy Grail max is another pedalboard friendly size option but no presets which would be useful. Ummming and awing between the Boss RV200 and the Blackhole. I already have a Walrus Audio Slotva and a mini spring reverb which may stay on the board. I just need to the reverse and a good neutral big reverb sound and I am done! RV200 could sort both of those out.... Is it as metallic sounding as is made out? It is going to be used with delays and fuzz either way, so any imperfections will probably get buried in the mix!
Digitech Polara, also looks good, but no presets, and the text is impossible to read on it!

The CDR-70 is brilliant!
The Reverb on the RV-200 is better, but when you consider the CDR can do 6 effects at a time and is cheaper it's super impressive.
@Jaded I tried the Gate setting on the RV5 and it seems to just stop, but maybe I need to play around with it some more.
Ah okay, I've only heard some demos of the RV5 and rarely do they seem to show much of the gate setting!
Are you running the RV5 before or after drives? If you're going for the whole shoegaze thing its pretty essential (other reverbs/delays are fine wherever IMO) - sorry if you already know this! It's just one of those things that took me an embarrassingly long time and going through quite a few reverbs to realise!
It's definitely tricky to setup and one of those "you have to play the effect" moments but once you get used to keeping your strumming pretty soft and constant/consistent to make it all smear together... it's THE sound. Paired with your RAT it's only going to sound even closer!

Hopefully the link works, but this guys video is pretty decent at showing the sort of settings to get there, just ignore all the other pedals he's using and I personally blend in a little of the dry to help keep me in time.
