I quite like it - it's different...

  • Well... as you say... it's different!

Back in the 60s, I think Mercedes used to use Zebrano on some cars' dashboards etc.

Be nice for them to make more effort with the special feature

Zebrano is available in much nicer, much wider planks than that - and usually cheaper than figured maple.  there is no need to use a 3-piece mismatched top

this one is at least nicely matched - what i would expect

I have done a few necks with the stuff.   not the easiest to work with but feels great with a simple oil finish

  • I have one.  I loves it I do.  Funnily enough I got it 7 years ago today as a wedding present from Mrs RHC.

Zebrano is one of my fave woods - yes Mercedes used it for some of their dashboards.

I have a custom built plinth that I had built for my beloved Lenco turntable and of course, the wood had to be Zebrano. Although mine is veneered rather than solid.

  • I think Coda has a CS Fender Strat and Tele in zebrano a few years ago.  Certainly an eye-catching piece of timber.

I have a Suhr HH Tele with Zebrawood cap and back, with Zebrawood neck. Bloody lovely to look at as well as play.

I had zebrano on the shopping list for my first guitar body. Untill I picked it up.

  • ^. There's a fella gets down our local jam night who puts a few guitars together. Last year he'd made a strat with a solid zebrano body and very nice it was too. I think a twin reverb may have been lighter though!

    Is it particularly heavy then?

I've got a mate who made a zebrano strat. I haven't played it but it looks stunning - such an interesting bit of wood!

yeah.   Its a nice wood though so worth using, but I wasn't going to try it on my first guitar build when i had to cut out the body shape with a coping saw.
