The Durutti Column - Sketch For Summer (Domo Arigato)
Vini's riffts....
Vini's playing, IMO, is great example of "one trick pony" but done by someone who has perfected the trick. He's absolutely one of my favourite guitarists.
I love his whole approach. I was very lucky to see him perform Pean to Wilson a few years ago. His interplay with Bruce Mitchell on drums was a joy to hear. I was unable to visit Manchester to see him play Chronicle, and shortly afterwards of course he suffered a stroke. This seems to have curtailed things in large part.
Great, great player. Jimmy Page (one of Vini's heroes) coined the phrases 'light and shade; from a whisper to a scream' when describing a certain approach to music and the guitar. Vini has this too. Capable of the most delicate and intricate pieces, but when he cuts loose he plays and lets fly with total passion.
Gets a killer tone from a Strat.
One of the GREAT British guitarists, and criminally overlooked.
I said maybe.....
