Distortion pedals - suggestions?

What's Hot

I asked a similar question recently and got zero replies - maybe because I put name of an unpopular pedal in the title and nobody read it? :-)

Anyway - I've hardly ever played in to a very clean amp and therefore not needed anything other than bog standard Overdrives, but I want to experiment going in to the Low input of my Marshall 2203X so want to nose around demos of more full-on distortion pedals and looking for suggestions.

Clarifications:
1. I don't do The Brootalz
2. Nothing need ever Djent
3. Looking for more of a rock insta-lead sound

Suggestions for my Youtube perusing?

Fulltone OCD is good and covers a lot of ground. Gunshot also, and the Muffroom cloud - although strictly a fuzz - has got a lot of different tones in it.

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

  • Just before Xmas I went to Andertons and tried loads of distortion pedals. I picked an Angry Charlie, which was before I saw the clip at the link below

    It's not a competition.

Does it need to be expensive? I'm getting great results from my cheap as chips TC Dark Matter and Mojomojo combo. Dark Matter is quite a nice crisp Marshally kind of thing, Mojomojo gives a more American style hairiness and combined gives a nice modern rock thing.

I've tried a lot of the boutique things and, for me, these two are doing the job. Best fifty odd quid I've spent.

It doesn't but (without wishing to invite and thread-diversion on the subject) I don't do TC pedals any more

I just bought a rat clone from China and an hyped about it arriving as I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Im hoping it'll replace my Funeral Party which is quite screechy.

The Zoom Hyper Lead is my favourite non-brootalz high gain pedal. Nice flexible tone controls and plenty of dirt.

    Get a Super Crunchbox.

The Angry Charlie is a badly made clone of it with fewer feature at significantly higher cost.

Cool, we all have our preferences :) .  DLS mkIII gets my next vote, cracking Marshall in a box.

Whilst I agree about it being a clone I don't think they're badly made anymore. All of the recent jhs gutshots I've seen have looked really tidy.

I'd go for a crunch box, OCD or a rat.

Sorry make that a crunch box, OCD and a rat ;)
