Sm57 clones or alternatives? £50 budget

What's Hot
Looking for a decent mic to start recording with during demo sessions - what are my options? Budget around £50 or so.

Cheers!

  • Try and find a used Audix I5, they sound a tad sweeter than a SM57, I much prefer them.

Budget alternatives - the Prodipe TT1 Pro is a surprisingly nice mic, got three that I regularly use on guitars and brass. Nice bottom end on it. A little over £20.

The Superlux PRA628 is a knock-off of the Sennheiser e609, haven't used one personally but gets a lot of recommendations as a cheap guitar mic. About £30 on Thomann.

Second hand, you'll get a 57 or a 609 if you stretch your budget a little. The AKG D5 is a great all-rounder dynamic too and can be had under £50. My go-to for live vocals but I've also used it as an instrument mic with decent results.

I can second the Superlux PRA628.  Used it for recording and micing up cabs with good results.

Update: I got an SM57 bundle (stand and xlr cable) from Andertons for £99.
