Guitar in wardrobe, any ideas ?

I always forget that we have this - it's been packed away right at the back of my wardrobe for years. It belongs to my wife, and it used to belong to her uncle - I'm guessing it's from the early 70s. The electrics are in severe need of a dust-off (not really possible to select the neck pickup) and the tuners aren't great, but it plays fine going through the AX8. Here's a pic if anyone happens to know anything about Eros guitars - I'm guessing it's a cheap Japanese thing, I can't find too much after a brief look online.

I'm no expert but it looks like it might be some sort of Les Paul copy.

Some of the guys over at Strat Talk are familiar with these. Let me see if I can find the thread.

looks like the late 70's model - should be a bolt on neck - imported into the UK via Rosetti, who later sold Gibson/Epiphone - similar to Avon, Columbus and other imported guitars of the day - late 70's and it was about £70 to buy and probably worth a similar price today - The only thing I can't recall is the Mark 11 tag

I vaguely remember them being around, but I don't know anything about them. Nice to see one again, though.
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

Pressed top and laminate body iirc also the pickups might be e single coils under those covers

Late-70s Japanese. But don't get too excited… the machineheads are usually crap, the pickups may well be pseudo-humbuckers - very poor, microphonic single coils inside humbucker casings - and they often have uneven fretting and sometimes weak neck joint where the screws won't do up tight in the too-soft wood.

But all of these things can be fixed, and they turn out to be quite characterful and not too bad at all. If it has sentimental value either keep it all-original, or you can upgrade all these things and make a usable guitar out of it for less than the cost of a new low-end Epiphone.

It is a type of guitar. The lighter ones are heavy, don't even think about playing a heavy one without first undergoing upper body strengthening exercises. The exercises that international front row forwards do.

I've got an Eros brand 12 string jumbo acoustic. Similar sort of quality to an Eko Ranger. I bought it new in 1972 and it cost me £40..... that was three weeks wages back then. Even shite guitars cost a bundle in those days.

thanks @ICBM and @guitars4you , thought it was probably something along those lines. I'm probably going to keep it as it is and just get the electrics cleaned up...if I do replace anything it'll be the machineheads. Yeah, pretty sure those are single coils going from the amount of hum :)

I think if the guitar is still in the closet it must have a reason so don't out it unnecessarily.  It may not have told the family yet.
