NGD: Relic Esquire from Guitars4You at Bristol show

What's Hot

So I didn't mean to buy a guitar at the Bristol Guitar Show, honest, but somehow walked out with a 2015 Fender CS Ltd Edn 55 Relic Esquire. I wasn't looking for another 'Tele' and didn't need one but hey ho, they can be persuasive guitars when you get up close!

The excellent Mark from @guitars4you ;had a great selection from his lovely stock on display and I was tempted by a Nocaster but fell for this one on account of the lovely soft V neck, excellent playability with 9.5 radius board and 6105 frets, punchy sound, and its very light weight at 6lb 10oz, which makes it really vibrant and resonant. It also came with a conversion kit of front pickup, guard and switchplate so it can easily be 'Telecasterised'. The fact that the guitar is a reissue from my birth year didn't hurt, either, when it came to parting with the folding stuff. I've always been a Tele fan but have never owned an Esquire before so I'm looking forward to exploring its charms.

Good to catch up with you again Mark, hope the show was good for you.

Thanks Nigel and see you soon - Maybe Kempton in Oct - some interesting expensive originals at the show but I feel the more you spend, then the more you need to know about what you are buying - As such I find my comfort zone has gone out of the window when you are talking 10-20/30K - I know with a Custom Shop what I'm buying and selling

Yep me too, absolutely. Looking forward to Kempton too on 29 October. And thanks for the pics of the Esquire, they're much better than my iPhone efforts!

    That's an absolute beauty!

All you need to do know is take that neck pickup and tele scratchplate and throw it in the nearest trout lake....

Is the control circuit conventional vintage Fender or has the Custom Shop employed some of those "cocked wah" circuit variations?

Love that!  The conversion kit is a nice touch too. :)

I remember seeing this on the @guitars4you website, but I thought it had already sold.  Did you get another one Mark, or is it my memory letting me down again?

it was the original one - sold it - then traded it back in and sold at Bristol before I could get it back on the web site - good memory and observant of you

fixed tone with big capacitor so all highs rolled off
variable tone option in the middle position
fixed tone - bypass so no load so additional bite

The middle position is seeing the most use so far. It's really punchy and bright in the back position, with the tone bypassed, and needs a little taming imo. Lovely guitar though.

glad your are both having fun - I'd tend to support that mid position as well and has more control over tone etc
