  • Wine red. Absolutely 100% wine red.

Black (ebony) is okay, but it's just too plain?

Here's a couple of snaps (excuse quality - just taken on my iPhone) of the finish of my wine red studio (chrome hardware with black surrounds and black speed knobs as opposed to top hats - though it's not common to find LP Studios with top hats as standard...)

Not sure if the photos do it justice. You get the idea. And yes those are my legs ;)

  • I quite like the white studios.

  • Isn't the 'standard' Studio color options literally: ebony, wine red, alpine white, and fireburst? Any variations are usually different off-shoots of the studio or not a studio at all (for example the Tributes have a very similar body size to a Studio)

    On a studio...white.

However if you are having it refinished (and it is a maple top) I would be inclined to have the whole thing stripped and finished in clear as a lovely mahogany maple combo.

I'm a big fan of wine red too.

Strangely it's not always the most photogenic of colours but always looks great in real life.

Strip the whole this and then gold top clear back and sides. It'll look awesome,

  • For me, with the absence of binding, Studios look odd in a solid colour. That's why I personally went for wine red, as the grain shows through the finish.

  • Thanks for the suggestions guys! I'm thinking maybe gold and get it pin striped like a pseudo Billy G thing! What ya think?

I have the Ivory white - It deffo has that 1970s vibe and because the rear neck is white also, it looks like the neck has binding too.

Mine has also started to craze a little so that is looks aged in a good way... You may not notice any similar crazing on dark colours...

lots of examples to contrast here:

Solid top (goldtop or black) and natural back and sides, leaving a strip of maple as a faux biding (à la PRS).

This. I'd do a blacktop, natural back, visible maple edge.

Yes - you can pin stripe with an indelible felt tip pen.. but you will have to hang your tongue out the side of your mouth whilst you do it and make little grunting and sniffing noises...

Look forward to seeing the result!
