Two Rock Studio 35 Pro Plus v Studio Pro 35

Hi all,

i used to own a Two Rock Studio pro 35 before the plus  range came out. I should never have sold it but hey.

Anyway I'm thinking of getting a Studio Pro Plus 35 head. Tremolo aside does the plus version sound ant different to the non plus version? I see it's bigger box box, bigger reverb tank maybe?

I've had both, the reverb was miles better on the standard pro. Think the plus used a valve for the trem that the pro used for reverb or something. The plus also has a boost but wasn't that useful.

I haven't tried a Pro plus, but I have put the chassis from my 35 head into a solid oak combo which is the same size as the studio pro plus combo. It meant I could put a bigger reverb in too. To be honest, I haven't noticed a huge amount of difference in the reverb tank size. It does sound better and certainly worth the cheap upgrade, but it was by no means a drastic change. I can't compare the bigger box size as I was using a 2x12 cab but I can say it sounds brilliant.

Had both and agree.
If I was buying one agin I wouldn't worry about the plus.
The biggest issue for me with this amp though is the FX loop doesn't work properly.

Cheers for the info guys. Could save me some £££. Couldn't really care about the tremolo.

it's strange they've put the plus in that huge box. I could only think of valve rattle or
bigger reverb tank.

I think it's the trem system. The chassis is bigger on the pro plus than the standard so it has to be bigger anyway. I would save the cash and buy a Flint

By the way, I changed from the pro to the pro plus as I couldn't get rid of valve rattle in the tiny combo. Two rock just told me that's part of having a combo that size.

Hey guys, 

Noticed that the pro plus has a boost type thing called expansion.  The video I've seen that sounds pretty decent.  I know the original version didn't have this feature. Can anyone comment on the expansion feature?

Frankly, I didn't like it.
It bypasses the tone stack so you get a fixed tone with it that isn't able to be controlled except with a single knob.
It is a rather blunt instrument.

I virtually never used it- an OD pedal on the front end does far more imho.

I'm trying to go for the Robben Ford type of lead sound. I'm unsure whether I'd be better with one of the TRs that have more overdrive?  The jet or sensor maybe? Any thoughts on this one guys?

The thing is I've just tried the pedal platform thing. Maybe I should amp distortion next..

I also chase that the Robben Ford tone.

Zendrive on the front will get you there.
I currently use a Zendrive on the front of a 12w Princeton style amp and it sounds awesome because I can wind it up.

Ok, zendrive. I've got a jrockett the dude pedal which is also dumble voiced. But with my victory v40 it doesn't that that sound close to me.

I'm still sceptical of the pedal route I guess.

The Dude is an excellent pedal.
Do you have 6L6's or EL34's in your V40?

Most Dumbles are 6L6's.
He made a few with EL34's.

I find I can get a decent RF tone with any clean amp and a bit of EQ tweaking though.

First it is mostly note choice.

I set the amp up with bass relatively low, maybe 2-4 (it stops it getting flubby), mids about 7, treble anywhere from 5-7.
Zendrive is set with gain up full, tone at 2 o'clock, voice up full and level about 5.
I control the gain from the guitar.

Take it you are setting the gain on the amp very low?

Yes with these pedals I reckon it sounds better running into a clean amp.
I think the key with a D type tone is to keep the mids high and the bass relatively low.

Have a picked up a regular Studio Pro 35 head.  Hopefully get it towards the end of the week.  Looking forward!
