yet again epiphone gets closer to the mark than Gibson

If the control cavity is as generous as the plate implies, there will be plenty of scope for pots, switches or a PP3 if you go active.
I can see me getting one of those if they're not silly prices.
They look cool and it's the first Epiphone LP style guitar I've seen that I think suits the headstock shape.
A pair of really nice pickups, some nice pots and switch and a good set up and I think that'd be a great guitar.
There's certainly a lot of it.
Great guitar for beginners
With the Epiphone Les Paul SL, new players will develop skills and techniques that directly translate to one of the most popular electric guitars ever made. Master Volume and Master Tone controls make it easier and faster to explore a range of sounds; compared to having separate volume and tone controls for each pickup. And the Les Paul SL features an intonated stopbar tailpiece that you won't have to adjust for optimum tuning — one less thing on your instrument to fuss with. If you're looking for a starter guitar that will inspire you to keep playing, Sweetwater can definitely recommend the Les Paul SL.

My guess is that this series of MM-alike guitars uses cheap Stratocaster style pickups. The pickguard has retained the vintage look for purely cosmetic reasons. Too bad that the controls section of it is oversized and underpopulated.
I agree that a black plate would better suit the black finish. The white plate models should have white pickup covers. The Epiphone headstock shape is forgivable. We wouldn't want anyone confusing these offerings with Gibsons.
The absence of a cherry red model is sacrilege.
Quite frankly probably a superb guitar for the money - will be interested to see one in person.
So presuming there's a cavity behind it, fitting the extra pots and making it like that one above should be easy?
