Yes or No ?

Some dude bought my casino on eBay and wants it sending despite saying pick up only.

Took a a few days to pay by PayPal but I received the payment but am very paranoid about sending. I always wrap guitars very well but a hollow body without case ????

Im leaning towards refunding the guy.

I wouldn't, but if he insists only on the basis that it's at his risk.

And after it all, you'll probably be the one who gets some negative feedback, because you wouldn't post an item that you listed as collection only, fackin' eBay.

If it's on eBay then it won't be at his risk though...

Definitely not. I'd refund and relist.  There's no chance that will arrive in one piece.

Refund, refer buyer to "collection only", step away.

Thanks guys. Made me feel a wee bit better for "letting down" the buyer.

Gonna refun him later. If he gives me bad feedback I can always respond saying it was crazy to send without a case.

    Peace

Could always offer to post it in a case at his expense ......

  • How far away is the buyer and how much would it cost to deliver in person?  I bought one off a MusicRadar forumite and rather than pay for a courier, got a cheap train London-Glasgow ticket and collected it.

Otherwise, AFAIK the risk from an eBay/PayPal sale is all on you.  I'd go for whichever option takes the risk away from you and gives you peace of mind.

FWIW, I bought a Peerless Songbird (which is a Casino by any other name) off EBay a few years back and it arrived in nothing more than a cardboard box with a length of 4x2 strapped to to it between the back of the headstock and the back of the body. This was pretty stupid as it must have received a knock coz there was a crack in the laquer along the headstock joint, but it is still structurally sound, and there was otherwise no damage.

  • BREAKING NEWS ;) - just remembered that my missus sold something on eBay (collection only) and the seller kicked up a stink because we insisted she collect it, rather than arrange her own courier.

After a few conversations with eBay, it was confirmed that "Collection" is collection in person and if the buyer wants to arrange a courier, the risk moves to them.  Worth getting it in writing from eBay (rather than some bloke off the internet) if you want to go down that road.

I'd be tempted to refund it purely because the kind of person that bids on a collection only item and then expects you to post it without having discussed it with the seller in advance is almost certainly going to be a pain to deal with.

That's what I was thinking. He said used PayPal so I'm screwed if it goes wrong in the post. I'll have to refund and have a fooked guitar.

And has been said - ask him when he's going to collect, or arrange his own courier .....

Exact same thing happened to me with an Amp I was selling. They left me negative feedback - and I had to phone ebay customer services to get removed from my account - which I did in the end.

I'm not aware of all the implications and issues surrounding E-bay and Paypal - But I would not want to be risking such a guitar with no case, or indeed no decent gig bag - Even if you paid for insurance, which is generally useless anyway, once they find out it is not shipped with suitable protection then I think you'll find you won't be covered  It is certainly a risk I would not want to take

Yet various suppliers will ship such guitars in a simple box with no sensible packaging - Maybe they just accept such losses as a cost of business and you (the customer) indirectly pick up any costs

Send him the contents of a packet of matches in the post in a rather over-sized bag stuffed with bubble-wrap.

If he kicks off, reports you to e-bay, and tries to drag his money back through PP then you know that you did the right thing withdrawing from the transaction ;)
