Should I get an echo or a dot do you think?
Dots have a built in mini speaker but it's really designed to be used as a bluetooth controller for a decent bluetooth speaker (bose etc). Good if you have amazon prime, because there's a vast library of music on tap - even more if you sign up to amazon music, which is currently 99p a month for 4 months and 7.99 thereafter.
The Echo is the same deal but with the speaker inbuilt. And it's a half decent speaker, plenty loud enough for me.
You can also either for the time, weather forecast, listen to live radio, set an alarm, use it like wikipedia, control smart home lights/heating etc.
Dot with speaker if you think it's an upgrade to the Echo's:

I got mother an echo - she'll probably try and dry her hair with it.
Grabbed myself a tablet and a fire tv stick for upstairs.
I'm slightly tempted by a big TV but there's nothing actually wrong with my current one. Might as well wait - spending £400 in a years time gets me something better than £400 today in all likelihood.
