The Swiss Army penknife - the smallest one they do.  I use the scissors on that.  It's a brilliant thing though which I would never be without.  Screwdriver, nail (and other stuff) file, knife, tweezers, toothpick.  £14.  Everyone should have one.
Haha! Exactly what I've done for years. Perhaps we should start the Swiss Hand Army Tool Section, or SHATS.

That's what you get in a specialist discussion. For many players the quickest way to improve their playing is to sort out their nails. Right hand is obvious if you're strumming without a pick. Left hand nails too long, or badly cut, can screw up your fretting accuracy. This then affects your playing speed, tone and tuning.

This thread is missing nail clipper youtube demos.
Without demos it's impossible to decide anything.

Christmas cracker clippers for left hand (and feet since youre asking), and one of the mrs's nail files for right hand. I like a bit of nail on the right for nylon strings and chickin pickin.

I use a standard pair of nail clippers but then I have got a very fine file, bit like a fat emery board that I got it in Boots.  You buy them individually, they cost more than an emery board but you get a lovely perfectly smooth finish. You can buy them in most places that do manicures or false nails too.

I bit my nails until I was about 30! Very neatly though, never too short and they always looked fine. Terrible habit!

It eventually stopped when my front teeth wore down and didn't work any more. Now I use good quality small scissors. I DETEST clippers, horrible things.

Exactly where I am at. Mid forties and front teeth worn down and prone to chipping, probably due in no small part to decades of nail nibbling.

I'm sure it's due to my crap playing technique, but I seem to really struggle with my left (fretting) hand fingers choking strings if I have any nail overhang at all. Hence it's a daily task to keep them in check.

Teeth no worky any more, so I need an alternative.

I can't use scissors ambidextrously, so that's out. Filing works for smaller removals and smoothing, but not really for bigger jobs, so that's why I'm looking at clippers.

I hate the cheap clippers I've used so far, as they seem to tear as much as cut, leave rough edges, cut in too straight a line, be difficult to hold, etc...

So thanks for the suggestions so far - I am checking-out the alternatives as we speak :)

    I think, therefore.... I... ummmm........

Mine are type 001. Should cost just over a fiver.
