The staple of TV chefs. A handful pricker greens and a sandwich fills a large plate. Looks great but little food content.

Who started this craze of rocket salad?

I dunno but it is great on pizza Something about the rocket and parmesan combo that is irresistable.

Also try a red pesto, rocket and tomato sandwich. Add avocado and grilled red pepper for a full meal!

I think it started in the craze after Keith Floyd started making his programmes. (He didn't start it though.)

(Just you wait until they realise Chili leaves are edible... I'm dreading this becoming fashionable.)

Rocket is great.  I have a patch growing in the garden and it's nicr just to go and get some when needed.  Smells great when the lawnmower catches it

But I do hate it when you order something like a beef sandwich and it comes stuffed with so much rocket you can't taste anything else.

Indeed. It's very powerful and distinctive, easy to overpower other stuff. 

Goes great on a tomato vegetable sauce on pasta.

Philistine, I planted Japanese knotweed in my garden just for my dog to piss on.
It's great in a salad with some Nasturtium and a splash of balsamic vinegar.

The first time I heard of Samphire was mid 90's.  English GCSE or A'level.  There is a short story by the same name.  It taught me that people can go OTT for the stuff.

Thst must have been 15 years before you started finding it in supermarkets.
