Is your amp set clean or dirty? Will you be stacking it with the AC at all?

  • Clean amp setup... Muffcloud stacked with an overdrive/distortion of your choice both the sustain and volume whacked up on muffcloud

The best lead tone when I had my V40 was with a Lovepedal Hi Volt, there was one for sale in the classifieds recently. Smooth singing lead tone with plenty of eq so you can get it to sit right in the mix.

If you can't find a Hi Volt, Suhr Riot worked well as did the Bearfoot Dyna Red Distortion.

    2 pedals I've used in the past for a good "insta-lead" sound :-) -1

    Zendrive

Xotic BB Preamp (even better if you can get the 'MB Custom Shop' version where you can tune the mid boost to taste)

Both are great - as is the (discontiued but you can find them used sometimes) Zoom Hyper Lead which has a really powerful EQ
    Red ones are better.

  • do you mean just an eq/gain/tone thing or a "cut through the mix in a live situation" thing?

  • because between the ac,rc, ep and sl you can pretty much get any lead tone out there, minus specific fuzzy stuff haha..

The Dude is incredible if you want thick, sustaining solo tones.

Have you considered an EQ pedal? My cheap Joyo 6 band EQ can turn the harshest of screechy crunch tones into a smooth as a baby's bottom lead tone.

If you use it in front of the amp you can even dial in a boost a the same time as shaping the tone.

Its a single channel clean amp, great pedal platform

and I could stack with the AC... the AC is great... but just want something with more Drive really.

Something that will drive more and get a smoother lead tone. I’d be pushing with my RC. The SL works well, just wanted a slightly less plexi tone... it’s really hard to describe
