New Cab Day: Tone Tubby content

I've wanted an 8ohm 1x12 cab for a while and eventually succumbed to the Cornell Plexi with Tone Tubby Red Alnico that Coda have had in for a while, which they did me a nice deal on.

I first tried it with a Cornell Plexi 18/20 head on the 5 watt setting, volume half way up and thumped an E chord on my SC Les Paul Junior. Alarums! The foundations shook, my trousers flapped and the cat shot upstairs at high speed - this cab has a seriously tight bottom end, possibly more bottom end than KK and BK put together!

I then tried it as an extension cab with a Carr Rambler combo and a 1972 silverface Deluxe Reverb and the results were equally impressive, when using the Junior, an R9, a Tele and a reissue LP Special DC. The cab worked fantastically well with the Rambler, which has the Elsinore speaker, just seeming to add more volume, punch and loveliness. And with the DR, which has a G12H30 speaker, it did a great job of keeping it tight in the bottom end, which can get a bit flabby (oooer) when you crank the volume. I'm well chuffed and the cab will definitely be coming out with the Rambler on our next assignment at the Dog & Duck.

    Nice one.
I have a mixed speaker combo in my Tone Tubby 2x12 cab (the ceramic and an alnico) and it's a fantastic cab. I trIed others with my Divided head but the Tone Tubbys work really well. Full, great bottom end with enough sparkle and top end without being harsh
