Finishing: Filling a Crack and using Wudtone

No jokes about the post title please!.

I have an Alder Tele body which I wanted to finish with the rather nice Wudtone Dairy Blonde finish I got from impmann. The problem is that it has a crack which needs filling somehow. Any advice on what filler I could use which would be ok under a Wudtone finish (I realise it won't look perfect)? Or should I go for a solid finish of some sort and save the Wudtone for another body?

Decent wood filler, natural, pack it, leave, sand. Leave for a coupla weeks, fill again, sand, leave for a bit, assess, get busy. Probably completely incorrect, but there ye go ;)
