Tokai AJM140 Silver Star (Jazzmaster)

I've just discovered that Tokai are making a "proper" Jazzmaster. It doesn't look like it's made it's way to the UK yet but I will be making enquiries. It comes in sunburst or white and, if the price in Yen is anything to go by, then it should cost around £800ish. Made in Japan so quality can be expected to be top notch. Does anyone have any more info?

I thought Tokai and Fender Japan are or were at one time or other the same thing? So basically a Fender Japan Jazzmaster with a Tokai logo.

Some Fender Japan models were made at the Tokai factory several years ago but not recently AFAIK.

After VAT and delivery it'll probably be more than a 60's Lacquer MIM Fender JM.  

The seller might not send out the Tokai to CITES as well. 

The Tokai JM does sound great though.

Rose Morris are now selling this for an eye watering £1850. That's more than the Fender American Professional ii, American Original and Ultra Jazzmasters.

I think the story is that the initial run of "made in Japan" Fenders were made by Tokai, but later Japanese Fenders are stamped "crafted in Japan" and were made by other manufacturers.

Yep, we've got one left. I had one for a while. They are definitely up with with the Fenders, but for that price it's hard to justify getting one when resale value is so poor...

I sincerely hope not as there are some amazing bargains to be had at the moment through unofficial channels

In this (odd) review, they sound more like P90s than JM pickups...?

They're definitely proper single coil JM pickups. Not the tall, narrow strat-a-likes found on older MIJ Fenders. They sound
