Neck Repair- or other explanation?

What's Hot
Squire Tele.
About 3/4 the way up the neck.
Line goes at 45 degrees up one side of the back of the neck, runs horizontal, then another 45 degree line along the opposite side.

    Not on a Telecaster.

The words squire and tele suggest it would not be very economical to repair the neck (Leos menders mind was to just replace them which is why they are screw on). Without a photo it's hard to say, but a luthier capable of a mend halfway ot the neck would cost a lot more than a replacement neck and probably as much as the guitar is worth.  Could it be that the timber used in the original manufacture was joined for economic use of the raw material before the neck was made and thats what you can see?

  • Looks like it might just be a mad patch of grain in the wood because it has finer grain over much of it. Perhaps cheaper wood was used than would be the case for a more expensive guitar.
Going to have it looked at by someone more knowlegeable.
