new(ish) project guitar day...

Bought as a battered looking black musicman evh OLP last summer - finally finished rebuilding and refinishing it - just needs a few tweaks to the setup and a few little touches but I'll be using it at rehearsals this weekend :)

It took an age to get rid of the heavier dings and the binding was a real pain - unlikely I'll do that again anytime soon... I've been playing it tonight and very very happy with the sound and feel - just need a shim to get the action where I want it...

Top, top work. How did you pull that finish off? Is it tape or paint?

    Thanks!

It's paint - a coat of primer and then black until it was flat, then mask it and a layer of white, then mask it again and a layer of red.  Sort the binding and then a few coats of lacquer.

I actually redid it as I wasn't happy with the first pattern - this one isn't quite how I had planned it but I just wanted it done so I could play it.

    Looks smart that!

What approach did you take for the binding?

I masked it while I painted the back and sides, when I was happy with with the back I scraped it and then did the same while I faffed about getting the top right.  A bit of a pain tbh as the masking isn't completely straight up like my les pauls - it edges in slighty - only a mm or so but enough to make it hard to mask or scrape neatly.
