I have some overwound Strat pickups from a Fender Direct Drive set (plastic bobbins used in Highway One Strats). Money is a bit tight at the moment, and I'd like to use them for a current project, but there is a problem - the outer windings of the middle pickup are quite loose with one even poking out from beneath the cover where it could easily have got caught and broken.
I'd guess that ideally the pickup needs to be professionally wax potted. But is there anything I can do myself to address the loose windings? Given that these are not very expensive pickups I'd prefer not to spend too much money.

@Funkfingers I know the pickups aren't to everybody's (anybody's) taste but currently needs must. I gave you a LOL though!
