If you can cope with proper lofi then Bee Thousand, Alien Lanes and Propeller are the best in my opinion (in that order), but I get that some people would think they are shit because of the poor production and playing. I was listening to the first track off Propeller when I posted last night - Over the neptune / Mesh gear fox - again it won't be to everyone's tastes but there are so many different things I love about that track, and in particular how the pace just relaxes back into the 2nd part as the melody soars away.
Albums like Mag Earwig and Isolation Drills are more conventional rock sounding and an easier starting point for those who expect more instrumental competence.
Do The Collapse had Hold On Hope on and is by far the most 'produced' sounding album. Half Smiles of the Decomposed is quite prog - you might like Girls of Wild Strawberries off that album - lovely song.
There's a compilation called Human Amusements at Hourly Rates which covers a fairly narrow period of time but again is an easy access point. There's also one called Crickets which has a lot of great tracks from his solo / side projects.
I am a scientist - classic GBV track off their finest album
Robert Pollard turned 60 recently and still out on the road doing his high kicks etc
Nah, last time I saw them live was circa Alien Lanes.
Have to say, the chorus of rally boys is one of his best pop moments in years. Einstein's Angel has something really cool about it too, then there's charmless peters etc etc...
