Why are the new two rock amps so insanely expensive?

Being a Victoria and Carr owner i can't leap upon my high horse about buying expensive amps...

Even taking the exchange rate into account however, why are these new models so expensive?

I guess the reverse is true. Something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it..

Tou never know, Two Rock might not sell many of them at all...

Ive only used the small combos, they were great. But over 4 grand for a head is a lot. I remember them being pricey... but have they taken a big jump recently?

A lot of companies reach a point where they have to either change their production methods or put up the price.

Given how expensive Mesas are (which are essentially mass-produced PCB amps) and the PRRI now retailing for over £1000 - I suspect the answer is ‘because they’re American’.

I doubt they sell many - but their artist roster is enviable - so selling what they make to well-heeled players is probably a good business model.

an amp is only worth what oeople are prepared to pay, if some mug is prepared to pay thru the nose then that is what the amp is worth

They always used to be very expensive until the original owners sold out to the Premier Builders Guild then the price dropped a lot, I guess they're going back to where they were. (10 years or so ago the Custom Reverb Signature was IIRC £5.5k)

By the same token, just looking on the World Guitars site and a Matchless DC30 is now £4,500!

I would say that four thousand pounds for a new amp head is expensive whether or not you can afford it.  I mean, I can afford to drink in town at £6 a pint but there's no denying that's expensive too.

That's just WG though. The German dealer will sell you one for a grand less! Or buy used, where prices struggle to breach 2k.

Better still, buy a Big Chopper from Steve at Audio Kitchen and pocket the difference

I think with prices like these it's going to be the smaller UK based manufacturers who will win out. Especially if they are small enough that they don't have to charge VAT.
