Hi Guys - My first post and looking forward to chats and contributing what I can.
Started down the road of building gold foils .... the web info is fairly limited so dying to hear what any of you think.
This is where i'm at:
The rubberised magnets - Initially i thought i'd have to figure out how to get fridge style magnets made to the right dimensions and pole orientation. Now I think that would be rubber magnets, but rubberized is actually ferrite magnets coated in rubber so that 44 AWG wire can be wound around without cracking the insulation.
so here i am with ferrite magnets that i found with the right width and heigh and pole orientation...cut them to the right length and have coated in plastidip....following the wise thoughts of a very cool dude who works in the Axesrus tech team.
The plan is to stick nickel-silver plates to each side, wind, then pot, then heat the plates to melt the glue then remove.
Any thoughts?

you are not recreating fine engineering, but fine bodgery. Go with what feels right and it will probably be okay.
if you are after exact replicas, buy some broken originals and go from there

I assume then that simply covering the magnets in tape would have largely the same effect for people with no interest in vintage accuracy?
Hope this helps.
