Neil Young is auctioning off some gear.  You have to go to page 125, or so, in the catalogue for the good stuff (unless you are in to model trains)

There was the classic performance of Rockin' In The Free World on Saturday Night Live where he used Marshalls I seem to remember.

  • Some of the reserves are strange.  Harmonica for the same as a shirt and not much less than one of the Martins from 'Comes a Time'. Will be interesting to see where some of the prices go

I see on page 76 he's actually selling off David Crosby. Cheaper than a six string banjo too. I'd bid, but I don't have the space for him at the moment.

Yes but its not one of *the* White Falcons... he's keeping them, clearly.

If you've ever seen pics of his ranch, I would be surprised if this makes a big dent on his collection. Although it does look like he's cleared out his studio *a lot*...

    It's still an amazing instrument.

Remember that first Clapton auction in 1999? Went with a friend to NYC who was mates with Lee Dickson, we were convinced that we were going to be able to buy something.....oh how we laughed. The reserves were reasonable, but then at auction things went crazy. I really wanted the one off Cunetto era Custom Shop Broadcaster Relic...estimate was $5-7k.....hammer price $21k....bugger. Still it was a great experience. Saw it for sale a few years later for $50k.
I'm guessing prices at this auction will be strong too.

I was there too! I took about £5k in travellers cheques thinking I might bid for and win the Giffin Strat, or something else. Iirc the cheapest items were the two Versace straps that went for $12k and $14k...

  • This maybe has a bit of added interest with the recent threads on the value of rock star owned equipment.
I think the guy that bought the Gibson belonging to Alex Lifeson (Rush being the third biggest band in history, on at least one measure*) got a bargain.

    https://twitter.com/JuliensAuctions

Some of the sales from the Neil Young auction on on Julien's Auctions twitter feed but here are some highlights

    Trains $300,000
    1953 Buick $400,000
    1935 Martin F-7 $35,000
    1957 Gretsch 6130 $37,500
    1965 ES 345 $25,000
    1957 Gretsch Country Club $ 37,500
    1958 Neve Telefunken microphone $42,500
16 Audio 610 preamp modules $68,750 (what are these?)
    52 Reissue telecaster $21,875
1977 Martin D19 $43,750 (This was used on 'Comes a Time' so is a bargain)

    * I am pretty sure that is true, but it might be an alternative fact
