OX4 pickups

What's Hot

A question for owners of OX4 pickups. Just taken delivery of a set of OXF Pafs but will only get chance to install them sometime next week. I know it's a question a bit late to ask but are they as good as what I'm expecting. They are going in a les Paul traditional with cts pots and paper in oil caps. The guitar sounds quite good with the 57 classics it has superb sustain and it is very resonant. Any comments welcome.

I've been really impressed with his humbuckers, I don't personally own them, but I have played a nice 335 and Les Paul with his stuff in, and they have sounded really good. If I was pickup shopping, OX4 would certainly be on my list.

  • Yes. They are excellent. I have some in one of my LPs and think they are fantastic. Better than BKP mules

I swapped out the classic 57 and 57 plus out of my LP trad for OX4 PAF’s, the difference was amazing, highly recommended

This will be happening on my Trad at some point. Have them in my Tokai LS50 and in two custom builds that are in progress...

They are nice, like most after market pickups are, but for the money they cost I know just as good and better can be bought from the winders on here.

I've had a set of mules in another les Paul they didn't do much for me.

I've only played one guitar with OX4's and I thought they were really, really good.

I have had a good number of PAF types and the OX4s are a different class.

They replaced 57 Classics in my SG and absolutely transformed it.

I have great respect for Mojo Marc and Oil City (both on here) and have some of their pups in other guitars but I would struggle to imagine anyone improving on these OX4s in a Gibson

The OX4s are fantastic, but they weren’t vintage enough for me. Montys PAFs are miles ahead in that regard

EDIT: Also, the first two sets of OX4s that I tried weren’t the best, but the third set was much better

    Shed used to be good.

Had? They're gone? Who gets rid of brilliant pick-ups?  :)

  • I have a set in a 335 and I love them. They replaced a set of Stormy Mondays, which I also really liked but the OX4s are far more to my taste, especially the neck pickup - they're more open and refined sounding.

  • Having had every boutique pickup under the sun including rarities like OTPG, Tim White and Holmes etc, as well a scores of ‘50s/‘60s PAFs and PAT Nos, I now exclusively use Wizz when not using vintage as they sound like killer, fairly hot late ‘50s PAFs  :+1:

Arent Montys about the same price (give or take) as the OX4's?

Only one way to find out: test them with a multi-meter.
