This entire album - as much as I love it - is a bleak, depressing, apocalyptic vision o f the near future.

Four Minute Warning is particularly chilling.

First time I heard 'Blood & Honey' by Swans was in a pitch black room. I thought Jarboe was going to float through the room and slit my throat.

Listening to any Mr Bungle after a few joints can be a fairly frightening experience.

In terms of lyrical content, Time by Pink Floyd. Fist time I listened to the lyrics it made me realise that life is short. And now I'm older and shorter of breath and one day closer to death. In fact the song could have been written about me. Still love the song though, but it's profound in a sobering way.

Playing something that everyone knows scares the hell out of me. The intro of SCOM for example. Or the intro of Johnny B. Goode. Life is hard enough without upping the ante so I skilfully avoid those type of songs. And another reason why I took up bass playing :)

This, when you become aware that the vocalist was likely to have been self-harming while recording.

I was at the infamous AFX Clink Prison Halloween gig, which was the first time Come To Daddy was performed in public. It's something that stays with you!
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

I started training as a teacher at one time. For one of my teaching practices I was working with a class of 9 year olds, doing a project about how different types of music can affect you emotionally. I played them Careful with that axe Eugene. Probably not the best idea on reflection, I'm sure quite a few of them had nightmares afterwards.

That Come to Daddy thing ^  is pretty grim btw  :#

Those were the days why don't people write songs about young girls getting clubbed to death then dragged across fields by their hair and thrown in a river, any more.  After all, grisly murder is still pretty common in Oxford, so my wife tells me.

Also, the smashing glass in Joy Division's "I Remember Nothing" makes me jump, every time!
