OK, so it's a naff compilation album, but ...

... what a naff compilation album

I was doing a bit of "close your eyes and click" on my mp3 NAS, and I clicked on this.

It's a compilation album, but I didn't FF a single track*.  Just turned the volume up a few times.

* OK, apart from Elected.

My kids bought me that sort of album every Xmas without fail for about 5 years running. I dread to think how many versions of Boys are back in town I've got.

There were some fantastic compilation/sampler albums in the 70s and 80s.

    Fill Your Head With Rock
    Rock Machine Turns You On
    Rock Machine We Love You
    All Good Clean Fun

Hmm. Well, I suppose I like Shampoo's version of Trouble.

The rest is a bit tired.

Does anyone know any Ram Jam song apart from Black Betty? Definition of a one hit wonder. Good song though.

  • I have a copy of the Ram Jam LP from which Black Betty was lifted. Haven't listened to it in years, but it was a solid if unspectacular rock album.

How is that naff?!!? Chock full of top drawer classic rock. Better than the junk that has populated the charts for the past few decades.

Oooh, I've got Nice Enough to Eat too. Great album. Mine is completely knackered, I played it to death.

It is certainly a naff compilation album.

You've only got to add Sex On Fire and it's a set list...

Looking in the charts for good music is like looking in the bin behind McDonalds for good food.

There was indeed. I didn't own it, but I did own one of the greatest of the Island samplers - Bumpers. I bought several regular albums based on the great tracks I heard on that.*

*But cf. the thread http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/116255/albums-with-one-good-song-on-them  Mad Shadows was not the record I was hoping for after hearing "Thunderbuck Ram" :-(
